Cycling Hell's Highway

Operation Market Garden by bicycle

In late September 1944, the Allied forces launched Operation Market Garden.
The operation intended to secure key bridges and towns to take the British XXX Corps all the way to the Zuiderzee. The operation's intention was to liberate Holland and circumvent the Siegfried line into the Ruhr area.
Ultimately, the operation fell short of reaching Arnhem.
"Hell's Highway" was the nickname given to a stretch of road between Joe's Bridge over the Meuse-Scheldt canal to Arnhem.
It was a very exposed two-lane road that became famous for its heavy fighting and heroism.
This website is dedicated to cycle touring Hell's Highway.
