Cycling Hell's Highway
Operation Market Garden by bicycle
In late September 1944, the Allied forces launched Operation Market Garden.
The operation was to secure key bridges and towns and take the British XXX Corps all the way to the Zuiderzee.
Ultimately, the operation fell short of reaching Arnhem.
"Hell's Highway" was the nickname given to the stretch of road that ran from Joe's Bridge over the Meuse-Scheldt canal to Arnhem.
It was a very exposed two-lane road that became famous for its heavy fighting and heroism.
This website is dedicated to cycle touring Hell's Highway.
